Indian-American Geeta Pasi named US ambassador to Chad by Obama

New York, April 21 (UITV)- The Indian-American Geeta Pasi, a career foreign service diplomat, has been appointed by US President Barack Obama as the next US ambassador to Chad, a landlocked country in northern Central Africa.

At Present, Geeta Pasi is the Director of the office of Career Development and Assignments in the Bureau of Human Resources at the Department of State. She is also a career member of the Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counsellor.

“I am pleased to announce that these experienced and committed individuals have decided to serve our country. I look forward to working with them,” Obama said in a statement issued by White House. Pasi’s nomination as the next US ambassador to the central African nation of Chad came along with several other appointments to key administration post, from the State Department.

Pasi has served as the United States Ambassador to Djibouti from 2011 to 2014. Since joining the Foreign Service in 1988, Pasi also served at a number of diplomatic positions in Cameroon, Ghana, India and Romania.

Earlier, Pasi was also Deputy Principal Officer at the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany from 2003 to 2006 and Deputy Chief of mission at the US Embassy in Dhaka.

Geeta Pasi was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University in 1984 and completed Masters of Arts at New York University in 1986.
