Hindus celebrate Hanuman Jayanti in Trinidad and Tobago

Port-of-Spain, April 23 (UITV)- Chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa, repetition of special mantras, singing of bhajans and the spiritual invocation of Lord Hanuman heralded che celebration of Lord Hanuman Jayanti at temples and special places of worship across Trinidad. For the past several days, Hindu groups and the individuals have been holding nightly vigils, prayers and meditation at hundreds of temples across the island.

The celebration takes place on the fourth full moon day in the month of Chaitra. Lord Hanuman is considered as the greatest devotee of Lord Rama, according to Hindu belief. Lord Hanuman symbolizes strength, power, self-control and unparalleled selfless service and devotion to the almighty.

Former minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Dookeran, hailed the continuous observance of Lord Hanuman Jayanti as, “a mark to keep spirituality not only among Hindus, but for the whole society which resonates in unifying the national populace not only through religion, but to further enhance social and religious solidarity.”

Lord Hanuman is one of the most sought-after in the Hindu pantheon of Gods and Goddesses because he is readily accessible and able to defend dharma and assist all devotees in crises, trouble, worries and challenges, when beseeched with deep faith and ardent supplication.

Trinidad continued to be the catalyst country in the observance of all the major Hindu festivals. Hindus here celebrated Shiva Raatri, Nau Raatri Ram Nowmi and climaxed with Lord Hanuman Jayanti.
