Darjeeling: Queen of the Himalayas

Darjeeling is a city in the north-eastern part of India in the state of West Bengal with a rough population of about 1.35 lakh which is famous for tea and tourism. It is very close to the Himalayas at an elevation of 2000 meters. The place is very famous for 3 things that are Kangchenjunga mountain, tea estates, and industry and cute Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that connects Darjeeling town to the hills and stills operates on the steam engine. The Kangchenjunga is the world's third-highest mountain range popular for its beautiful views.

Darjeeling tea is internationally recognized and ranks among the most popular black teas in the world and the place contributes 7% of the total tea export from India. The occupation of the local people is mostly tea plantation in the estates, mostly 60% of workers working in the plantation are women. The steam engine powered train also known as the ‘Toy Train’ was first started by the Britishers back in 1881 and is counted among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The local residents are from different states and belong to different communities, a Nepali culture is also observed among the people and the place is also famous for its food. Rice, noodles, and potatoes are feisty raw materials and are best suited for food preparation.
